Remember this acronym: S.T.E.R.
It stands for:
• Selflessness
• Timelessness
• Effortlessness
• Richness
It's an acronym used to describe the characteristics of the flow state.
You know, that juicy state of consciousness where you feel deeply connected to the here and now.
Your sense of time is muted and you feel this almost weightless emotion beyond your self consciousness where your mind and body are working as one with zero effort.
I like to use this framework to reflect on my day.
Was I selfless in my actions? Did I experience moments of timelessness where I was fully absorbed by the activity I was working on? Was there an effortlessness to my work, or was I forcing things? Did I feel the rich, deep sense of satisfaction beyond any material success?
The flow state isn't just a peak performance state of being–it's a guide to living more fully.
It reminds me to aim for more than just productivity and instead, for those moments where I'm fully aligned–feeling connected, alive and present to what I'm doing and why.
With all the demands on our attention these days, finding flow isn't just a luxury, it's a necessity. It's not something we just fall into, it's something we have to cultivate and build.
The ability to access the flow state every single day might be the most important 21st century skill.
